My First Travel Adventures

Welcome to my Travel Blog!

I'm Carlton, and I like to travel! I started traveling officially in 1989 when I joined the US Navy @ 19 years old. I was already exploring the world and getting paid for it if you call that "Pay"!

My first country ever was Chile, and it was a blast. I didn't speak a word of Spanish, which was not required when I was in High School. They dropped us off in a beach city called Viña del Mar.

When a Navy ship pulls into port, we are basically free to do whatever we want. Just be back to the ship before it leaves port - or you are SOL!! We had 4 days in Chile to explore.

Being a broke non-Spanish-speaking Sailor - I stayed on the beach with the other Squids.

I did meet a pretty Chilean girl, she liked me, I think! See in Chile there were not too many people of color in those times. The people were touching my hair, touching my skin to see if I feel different - They were talking... But, all I could make out was Mike Tyson, Mike Tyson!... Apparently, I looked like Mike Tyson to them... I Don't See It!!?? Luckily, I had friends on the ship that did speak Spanish, to translate for me.

Army Picture and Navy Picture.

I really wished I had spoken Spanish! I do now!! Won't catch me slippin' again! LOL

Next Stop - Rio De Janeiro, Brazil We had 5 days in Rio and all I can remember from that trip was it's HOT!!! Why is it so HOT!! We arrived like a week after the famous Carnival.

After Rio - We had 3 days in Saint Thomas, USVI I loved Saint Thomas. I was heavily into Reggae Music in those days! The hard part was getting used to them driving on the opposite side of the road - that kinda blew my mind.

Off to - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania US Naval Ship Yard...

See I am practically Popeye The Sailor !! I have been to 3 countries and I was only 20 at this time. But, that didn't last long since my ship was on its way to dry dock, and after that, I was out of the Navy.

Army Life - Eight years later I joined the Army Reserves and you know where they sent me, don't you? Germany I was in Mannheim Germany for two weeks, on reserve duty.

That’s how I got started…

Since then I have been to several countries over the years. I am a lone traveler and I will share my experiences and insight with other travelers that are like me.

So many people tell me, that they would love to do what I do… I am just trying to show you all the way!

Travel does not have to be expensive, and you do not need to go with anyone to have fun!

Follow me, and I will show you the way!!
